About Shep Huntly

 

Shep has been on stage more than half his life.

 

All his life Shep knew he wanted to be on stage. He did his first performances in primary school, was in all the school plays through out secondary school and studied acting at University.

Shep discovered circus while studying for his BA at Federation University in Ballarat. He spent the next few years performing in a three man show called Circus in a Suitcase. They performed at hundreds of schools, agricultural shows and festivals throughout Victoria.

In the early 1990s Shep became a solo street performer and  traveled all over Australia busking at festivals and on the streets of our major cities. In the mid 1990s Shep went to England and Europe and continued  busking and street performing. Shep has now performed his solo street shows at hundreds of festivals in 26 countries, including returning to the famous Edinburgh festival sixteen times.

In the year 2000 Shep was a co- founder of Australia’s first post modern sideshow ” The Happy Sideshow”.

The Happy Sideshow performed at prestigious festivals all over the world, made numerous TV appearances in many countries and were invited to create four different shows to be performed in the Sydney Opera House.

After The Happy Sideshow parted ways Shep founded  The League of Sideshow Superstars, and a few years later co-created The Dark Party, a theatrical piece described as “Gothic visual poetry”. The Dark Party became Australia’s greatest sideshow export wowing audiences and critics alike. The Dark Party was a featured act at many festivals through Australia, France, Spain, Portugal and the UK.

These days Shep is one of Australia’s most amicable MCs, his street shows still wow audiences where ever he performs and his sideshow stunts are second to none.

Since becoming a father seven years ago Shep has created a new children’s show,

Dr Hubble’s Bubbles. It is proving very popular across the country and recently received 4.5 stars in The West Australian.

Shep also conducts an industry masterclass called The Art of the MC, helping professionals refine their techniques of communication with their audience.

He is also the Festival Director and Producer of The World Sideshow Festival, an international performance art festival held bi-annually in Ballarat, Vic.
